IBEDC DRAGS EIGHT TO COURT OVER ALLEGED ENERGY THEFT IN ILORIN
On the 28th May 2019, IBEDC dragged eight persons including a woman to court over alleged offence of energy theft and bypassing of meters in Ilorin, under Kwara region. The eight suspected energy thieves were arrested at Budo-Iya village in the Ilorin West Local government area of the state. The eight suspects include Oyelaran Joseph, Awoniyi Abosede, Olaiya Joshua, Biodun Ayodele, Emmanuel Bamidele, Adebayo kehinde, Emmanuel Olatunji and Femi Jonah. All eight suspects appeared before an Upper Area court in Ganmo in lfelodun local government area of the state.
The IBEDC Regional Communication Officer, Kwara, Kolawole Asaju reported that the suspects were caught during an on the spot assessment of the distribution of free prepaid meters. The upper Area Court Ganmo granted bail to all eight suspects with a condition to provide two sureties each. The case was adjourned to the 11th June for hearing.
Energy theft is an act capable of sabotaging the effort of the Company in providing constant power supply, meeting set targets and collection losses.
